We are delighted to announce that two of our SEN resources have been shortlisted as ERA finalists for 2018!

Our shortlisted products are our Calming Coins and our book – How to support students with Autism Spectrum Condition in secondary school.

Calming Coins

These are a handy bag of calming strategies to help young people discuss and explore their emotions and find calm in times of anxiety or anger. They can be used to help children work out what might be causing their anger and help them recognise and understand the appropriate way to communicate and gain control of their emotions in difficult situations. These bright tokens are made from recycled plastic and come printed with 30 different calm down strategies that encourage children to explore their feelings and build resilience. They come with an instruction card of suggested activities of use with both individuals and groups of children. Drawstring bag contains: 30 tokens each printed with a different calm down strategy. Perfect for PSHE and nurture groups.

How to support students with ASC in secondary school

This book is for SENCOs, teachers, teaching assistants (TAs), learning support assistants (LSAs) and senior managers. It is intended to be used as a reference throughout the time the student with ASC is in your school or class. It will help you understand the student’s condition and support their strengths and differences. From key skill support in each subject to social inclusion, mental health and puberty, every student with ASC will need a support plan that will be cohesive across their whole school experience. This will need someone, usually the SENCO, to make sure subject teachers know the essential information about the student, and who monitors their progress and is able to identify any issues early enough for them not to become crisis. The book discusses behaviour, sanctions, homework and testing so that each teacher can understand the value of consistency and have strategies that they can use to support the student with ASC.
