Island Animals Inclusion Resource Pack
Have you ever tried to explain an unseen disability or have a child ask why another behaves in a particular way? This set includes 3 children’s book where animal characters happen to have autism, dyspraxia and ADHD. Within the adventure stories the other animals find out about the various impairments and each story focuses on a specific character.Zak the Zebra happens to have autism. He flaps his ears, spins in a circle and likes to count his stripes to check they are all there. During the story the rest of the animals adapt their activities to ensure he is included.
On each page there are ©Widgit symbols to help slow or non readers. The accompanying teacher’s resource book is filled with practical ideas and suggestions for activities that follow the stories and animal characters. There is a CD rom with pages of printable resources ready to use and share with the children in your class.
In this book we consider how all children can be included with suggestions on how to adapt activities where necessary and there are challenges to think about. The books can be used with children in Primary Schools and we have provided some extension activity ideas for older or more capable children.
