ERA Awards nominations

18th February 2016

LDA has had two resources shortlisted for the Best Educational Book Award at this year’s prestigious ERA Awards!

The full Target Ladders series and How to garden and grow: gardening as therapy for children with SEN are the shortlisted titles

The Target Ladders series includes books on autism, dyslexia, BESD, SLCN, DCD and visual perception. This powerful series of practical books, all authored by specialists in their field, fully supports the SENCo and class teacher in implementing the 2015 SEND Code of Practice in order to close the gap between children with SEN and their peers. Each book focuses on a number of Aspects of the condition, which are separated further into particular areas of challenge for these individuals. Practitioners can then think carefully about precisely where the barrier to learning may be, and relevant Target Ladders can be used to identify the ‘next step’ target for the child.

How to garden and grow is a practical and inspiring book is full of information, suggestions, games and activities to give practitioners the confidence to garden with children with SEND. Covering everything from gardening basics and design considerations to a year-round programme of gardening and garden-related activities, it demonstrates the educational and therapeutic benefits of spending time in the garden for children with SEND and how to make it possible for all children to do so. By linking tasks to the specific needs of children and to the curriculum, it is ideal for both the novice and the experienced school gardener.

This is the second year running that LDA have received two nominations for the awards. This year’s ERA Awards winners will be announced on Friday 18th March at Birmingham’s National Motorcycle Museum.

Advice was offered to headteachers and school staff in all English schools on “developing the school behaviour policy” and on “the powers members of staff have to discipline pupils”.
